Family Apartment Renovation In West Perth

A place to rest,  in the “big smoke”,  for a Mandurah based family of 5,  takes on a new modern look from Essence Interiors’ Renovation Project Management

Budget:  $50k

Cost:  $48k

Timeframe: 8- 10 weeks

Details: 80’s built 2 beds, 2 bath and laundry, pool facing apartment with balcony on the second floor, group of apartments in West Perth.

Just completed:  a ten week renovation of a two bed, two bath apartment in West Perth.  A family from Mandurah own this apartment and use it when they need to come to “the big smoke.” Husband Don, works in Perth and the kids attending uni shortly, so it will be getting much more use soon.   "Time for an update", said busy mum Belinda, who had not done anything since ‘Dulux Hogs Bristle’ was rolled on the walls of their apartment in the mid eighties. Belinda said the apartment was looking, “old, tired and definitely outdated”.

With those eighties yellow tones overriding the whole interior aspect, the yellowness was  to be banished,  in favour of a more contemporary grey based interior. Dulux Beige Royal Half strength for the main walls, with a few accent areas in Dulux Linseed (a very versatile shade of Khaki) gives an instant lift and brightens the scheme. White ceilings and Beige Royal quarter on all trims. Now Belinda loves the new colour Linseed and says, ”the new colour scheme has lifted the whole feel of the unit, giving it a fresh, modern and stylish feel.”

The kitchen was good in terms of layout and  the existing internal carcass was sound, so to save the client lots of money,  the plan was to overhaul the existing kitchen with Granite Transformations new stone overlay covering  the bench top, a new 1 ½ bowl  Oliveri kitchen sink and Phoenix mixer tap, using new laminate ABS doors from Polytec,  in two tone, Rocco Lini and Greige ( the new "it" colour combining grey and beige) Slick steel cabinet  handles and kickboards , complement the new stainless dishwasher, sink, fridge, in built micro and under bench oven.

Replacing old yellowish  ‘fake pine look’  Lino, we used a 'House Nerd favourite' - and Essence Interiors ‘Go- to Flooring product’ ; The Brilliant Bullet proof, Acoustic rated, soft underfoot, Timber look Vinyl Planking from Choices Flooring Osborne Park, to go with new cabinetry doors and it pairs nicely with the grey/beige paint colour scheme.  New Lights,  bought at Vogue Lighting clearance store Balcatta, saved on dollars and added some uplifting  ‘ Bling ',  where it was needed.

Both bathrooms were overhauled completely and without changing the layout, in order to be economical. Granite transformations making over the existing vanity units, with gleaming new 600x300 rectified white wall tiling and a pencil, stone marble and glass mosaic,  which complements the large format rectangular charcoal floor tile;  all by WDT ceramics and accessories by Bathroom Outlet. All new chrome  squarish angular Phoenix Tap ware,  Caroma Leda Vasque vessel sink, Paco Jansen back to wall toilet suites and Circo round  stainless  laundry trough completing the bathrooms and laundry space,  all from Parkwood Plumbtec. Fameless glass screens give an open fresh look to both rooms,  by Cooling Bros.

Blinds were not being replaced sadly, ( looking very eighties in bluish slat vertical venetians), however we were able to  completely cover these up successfully and economically. Using a $50 extendable decorative steel curtain rod with Finials, mounted above the window reveal and using ‘Sheer Linen Look’  Eyelet curtains in Taupe, (for only $25 a drop), to complete a ‘softer, floaty looking ‘ bedroom window and lounge sliding door aspect. The look of this cheap and cheerful window  dressing  technique, is what Essence Interiors’  owner Simone,  calls their signature,  “champagne styling on a Beer budget trick ” the owner Belinda absolutely loves this softer look!  Easy to achieve,  with Essence Interiors to guide you with their  expert know how!

Said Belinda, of Essence Interiors’ Sense of Style and budgeting skills, “the colour scheme Simone chose throughout the unit was exactly what we wanted, and it’s amazing to see we could achieve such a big transformation within our budget. “

With a budget of only $50k, this active family of 5, were able to revitalise an ageing eighties style apartment they depend on totally, for frequent visits to Perth, with a new look kitchen and appliances, full paint job, renovated bathrooms and laundry, new vinyl flooring, lighting and window treatments and it came under budget, at $48k which made owner Don very, very happy!
