SCARBOROUGH KITCHEN

Our client approached us with a budget she had for a new kitchen of $35k, and we asked exactly what she was needing as she lives with her three kids and a big dog so it’s a busy household.

The old kitchen was a vinyl wrap kitchen with a gloss laminate bull nose bench top and profile doors in a heavy cream colour that were really showing its age. The vinyl wrap was peeling off on some doors, as is what happens a lot with this older vinyl wrap kitchen (Advances now in vinyl wrap doors mean that this sort of thing rarely happens now).

The owner said it got quite dark in the corner, so she wanted light bright and lots of white with a stone top and full height pantry and fridge cabinets all on one side. She kept her rangehood which she proudly revealed to me she had painted white on the weekend! It would go with her new white doors and top. She kept her dishwasher, and we moved it to a new place and the client bought her new appliances on- line and had these delivered.

A word of warning- online appliances can often get damaged in transit and we found this when her cook top with glass top turned up completely smashed! So be very careful when ordering online products as the delivery cannot be assured.

The client chose an organic (uneven shape and colour) subway that gave the splashback a rustic look and blended with the all- white cabinets. The cabinetry was in two pack lacquer sprayed doors and drawers and she opted for no handles at all- just a grab space in between.

As the finishing touch a new light fitting was mounted on the wall above the window to throw light down to the bench. The floating shelves were added to the space above the splashback, and these had strip LED lighting for extra illumination and to make a statement.

Both corners feature a “Lamaze” shelving pull out unit in each and the new pantry has shelf pull outs for easy access and greater storage utility. More drawers were added rather than doors.

The front of the breakfast bench features a textured whitewash wood look board by Laminex for a contrast and for easier cleaning where people sit at stools. The customer is “ín love” with the new kitchen! Finished in just 3 weeks at a cost of all up $36K

The Brief

I’m seeking a kitchen renovation within a budget of $35,000 to accommodate my busy household of three kids and a big dog. The current kitchen, with its peeling vinyl wrap doors and outdated cream color scheme, no longer suits our needs. I envision a light and bright space with white cabinets, a stone countertop, and full-height pantry and fridge cabinets on one side. The existing rangehood, which I have painted white, will be kept, while the dishwasher has been relocated and new appliances have been purchased online. I’ve chosen organic subway tiles for a rustic splashback that blends well with the white cabinets, and I prefer two-pack lacquer sprayed doors and drawers without handles for a sleek look. Additional features I desire include improved lighting with a new fitting above the window, floating shelves with strip LED lighting, Lamaze shelving pull-out units, pull-out shelves in the pantry for better access and storage, and a textured whitewash wood look board by Laminex for the breakfast bench front. With a focus on functionality and aesthetics, I’m excited to work with you to create a beautiful and practical kitchen that fits within my budget.
